Velyra

- Name
- Velyra “the Elfslayer”
- Race
- Human — mortal by nature; fights her own finitude with necromancy and blood potions
- Class / Ability
- Necromancer — magic of the border between life and death: death magic, forbidden seals/runes, manipulation of life force. Dragon-bound elven blood is her ultimate resource (lifespan + power increase).
- Outward Mark
- Blood-red eyes — mark of her necromancy (visible sign of long practice with death magic and the lifeblood of others)
- Motive
- Overcoming mortality: as a human she is finite — necromancy slows it, the blood potion extends it (blood of an elf + bound dragon = up to 1000 years). Together they are her life's work against death.
- Confirmed Deed
- Murder of Althaea Silberstrahl + Eldrinath (roughly 300 years ago) — magic battle in the field; executor (blade). The actual target was Ammetharion (Morvaeth's commission); killed Althaea, who appeared in his place. Discovered the value of dragon-bound blood in the process → her own blood motive, self-sustaining since the murder.
- Origin
- Longtime service provider to Morvaeth (intelligence gathering, eliminations, forbidden runes/seals, death magic on his behalf). The Ammetharion commission was her “payment” opportunity. Her necromancy makes her irreplaceable to Morvaeth — no elf would render these services.
- Knowledge
- Knows the secret of the bond — received from Morvaeth
- Current Goal
- Hunts the three daughters (Mirianwe/Aryael/Cindeya) for the next potion — independently, not as Morvaeth's puppet
- Ally
- Morvaeth — alliance of convenience; he provides insider knowledge + Council cover, she provides external dirty work + necromancy services
Companion & Equipment
Role: Blade, Not Hand
Velyra executes — the true hand behind her is Morvaeth. Alone, she would stand no chance against dragon-bound Sternenfall elves + Ammetharion. Morvaeth supplied the insider knowledge (weakness of the bond) + Council cover + forbidden rune amplification.
Important: Velyra is no puppet — she has pursued her blood-potion motive independently since the murder of Althaea. An alliance of convenience between two forms of greed: she wants blood, he wants self-absolution.
The Hatred (Motive in Depth)
Velyra hates elves. Not in the abstract — she envies them the immortality they simply have. As a mortal human, she fights with everything she has against a finitude elves will never know.
The blood potion is thus more than greed: it is the appropriation of an immortality denied to her from birth. She steals what the elves were given for free.
The hatred explains why she surrounds herself exclusively with humans — no elf is her confidant. Kira is human. Her network is human. To her, elves are a resource, not companions.
Relationship with Kira (Her Only Real Bond)
Kira came to Velyra as a little girl — caught trying to steal. Velyra sensed the potential, took her in, and trained her as an assassin.
Foster mother / foster daughter. The one real bond in Velyra's life — everything else is expedience. Velyra gives Kira free rein (no distrust, no detailed orders). Kira is her blade.
- Life Extension as Proof of Love: During the murder of Althaea (two-wave trap), Kira — then 26, mortal — proved her courage and loyalty. Afterwards, Velyra brewed her first dragon-bound blood potion from the blood of Althaea + Eldrinath and gave it to Kira. Kira has appeared permanently 26 ever since (frozen). The potion was Velyra's proof of love — not her own means of survival, but a gift to the only person who means anything to her.
What She Can Do
- Necromancy: Death magic, forbidden runes and seals, manipulation of life force — her core craft. Makes her unique to Morvaeth as a service provider.
- Can break the immortality bond — proved it on Althaea + Eldrinath. The knowledge came from Morvaeth, the execution through her magic.
- Battle Mage: On equal footing with a powerful elven sovereign (magic battle in the field against Althaea).
- Has consumed blood potions (earlier elf-dragon pairs) → explains her great age despite human origin. Necromancy + potions = two pillars against her mortality.
Dramatic Irony
House Sternenfall knows neither her name nor that their mother's murderer = their current hunter. The daughters will meet Velyra as a stranger — possibly at first taking her for harmless or even helpful.
This is the story's central source of tension.
