The Shared Death
Eldrinath fell on the same day as his elf — elf and dragon had to be killed simultaneously, for as long as one of the two lives, the other is immortal. Whoever was capable of this knew the weakness of the bond. The marks of battle on the field bear witness that both fought back to the very end.
The Grave at the Stone Circle
Eldrinath rests together with Althaea in the stone circle grave directly beside Elen-Garth — guarded by the four remaining family dragons, day and night, for 300 years. Since the burial, a storm that never ends has stood above the grave.
The Blood Bond
The blood bond between elf and dragon is created by a powerful elven spell that succeeds only under two conditions: the dragon must have been born on the same day as the elf — and it must have a kindred nature. Finding both together requires very old knowledge; in the present day, Ammetharion alone guards it.
- Paired Immortality: As long as one of the two lives, the other is immortal. The effect always applies only to that particular pair.
- Emotional Mirroring: Under strong emotion, the partners feel one another — love and hate alike break through, while everyday life remains muted.
- No Coercion Possible: Elf and dragon must consciously consent to the bond; in the moment of its sealing, the soul and spirit of both beings touch. A forced bond collapses.
- Opposite Sex: A family-wide rule of House Sternenfall: the dragon is always the opposite sex of the bonded elf — no coincidence, but a prerequisite of the bonding magic.
How Dragons Speak
With the bonded partner there is an emotional-telepathic connection: moods, warning signals, diffuse impressions — no true conversations. The dragon is not a conversational partner, but neither is it a mute object. Dragons can also communicate among themselves; this is how the dragon watch at the stone circle grave coordinates its rotation without a single command.
